West’s Zakat dilemma; Saudi-Pak alliance; Muslim women travel

Pulse of the Global Islamic Economy

Rabi ‘ll 17, 1447 AH

Assalamualaikum,

Western charities are waking up to the untapped potential of Zakat as a structured, year-round channel for impact. Yet, despite generous Muslim donors and billions in annual giving, many organizations remain slow to establish the governance, Shariah oversight, and communication frameworks necessary to make it work.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan’s landmark defense pact marks a new era of Muslim world security, pledging mutual protection and setting a model for future Gulf alliances amid rising regional tensions.

Finally, a wave of Muslim women-led travel movements is redefining tourism, turning adventure into empowerment.

Only 14% of UK Muslims — around 370,000 people — currently give Zakat to secular organisations, yet nearly half say they would if the impact were clearer, revealing a major opportunity for charities to better engage Muslim donors.
